‘I'm a country man through and through, which is one of the reasons why what I do suits me down to the ground. I started off at Agricultural College studying Rural Resource Development. When I graduated, I took a job with a fertiliser manufacturer, but I was looking for something with more of a challenge, where I could really take my future into my own hands. Becoming an Agent for NFU Mutual gave me exactly that. I think the fact I've worked here for 12 years and have been a consistent top-performing agent speaks volumes.
I work as part of a 3-man partnership, which employs 10 people. Day to day, we have complete freedom to run things how we see fit, whilst enjoying the extensive support and resources of a well-established organisation when we need it. The relationships we build with our customers make the work incredibly rewarding. We feel a huge part of the local community - something I think is totally unique in this field.
What advice would I have for someone considering being an Agent? Do your research, maybe spend some time in one of the offices, ask questions and be prepared to work your socks off for the first 18 months whilst you settle in. But I guarantee you, you'll reap the rewards.'
